Shock Doctor's Gel Max Power instructions call for 60 seconds in hot water after a 30-second off-heat rest, followed by molding and cooling. This guide summarizes those steps for that model only; other mouthguards can use different instructions, so use their own manuals.
The Gel Max Power uses a boil-and-bite process with its own heating times. Follow Shock Doctor’s instructions for that model and keep the water temperature, immersion time and cooling steps in order.
Molding sequence for this model
- Bring 3 to 4 inches of water to a rolling boil, remove the pan from heat and wait 30 seconds.
- Place the mouthguard in the water for 60 seconds at most. Attach the tether before heating if you are fitting the strapped version.
- Remove it with a slotted spoon or tether and cool it in tap water for 1 to 2 seconds. Center it on the upper teeth and press it into place, starting at the molars and moving toward the front.
- Align the lower jaw with its channel, bite down and use suction and finger pressure through the lips and cheeks for 20 seconds, as the manufacturer describes.
- Remove and cool the guard in cold water for 30 seconds, then test the fit. Shock Doctor says to repeat the full sequence if the fit is inaccurate.
Use care with hot water and follow the complete fitting instructions, including the listed tools and product warnings. Shock Doctor says the Gel Max Power is not compatible with braces.
